Volume up with SONOS

It’s the second installment of Tech Friday and I’m beyond excited to share something that has really impacted my life over the past few months. Ever since I started to be more aware of the stuff that surrounded me, I also paid more attention to our technology at home. How can we do more with less?

A couple of months ago, we had a very old stereo at home. The cd player had long given up, he still tuned in to a couple of radio stations but the remote was broken so it was a five minute task to change channel (which I do multiple times, every single day). I realized: what the h*ll are we doing? What are we losing our time with? It still worked, kinda – but nothing about it reminded us of how we had loved this thing years ago.

It was time for a change. The stereo found a second home and I started doing my research. I finally landed on SONOS. It had been on my radar for a while but I didn’t quite understand the ins and outs. Now was the time to check it out. SONOS gives you a hundred days to try out their products and if you’re not satisfied, you can just send them back. I decided to take the leap and figure out if this was what I was looking for.

SONOS is a WiFi-enabled sound system that let’s you control one or more speakers from your mobile devices. You plug the speaker, connect it to your WiFi network and done. If you have multiple speakers in multiple rooms, you can have them play the same music or different music. All with the ease of the app.

A white Play:5 arrived at my doorstep and I was eager to set it up. I installed the app on my phone and 10 minutes later, everything was ready to rock. I remember powering it on for the first time and actually smiling at the sound. What. the. hell. The quality is unlike something I ever heard before in my home.

Where in the past I needed to go to my radio to change it, I now just take my iPhone/iPad/Mac, open the app and listen to my favourite (local) radio station, podcast, Apple Music playlist or just Despacito on repeat.

And I never want to go back. The advantages are incredible. We are multiple people at home and it’s so easy to each have our own favourites, listen to what we want and change the tunes depending on who is at home. I love listening to Anna & Lily’s At Home With podcast and since it’s via Wifi, nothing will interrupt it which is the big difference with Bluetooth speakers. Not a single device has to remain open or active., it just works and I believe that’s why I’m so hooked. I think I’m even going to splurge on a Play:1 for my bedroom, just to enjoy the vibe at more places in the house.

I hope this article was helpful to you, wether you were looking for something to improve you audio experience or not. Wether you know your way around technology or you’re a fellow nerd. I hope sharing my experience was helpful and don’t hesitate to drop me a comment if you have questions! Enjoy the vibe today, it’s almost weekend.
