NYC, the haul

It’s finally  here. I’m very sorry to have kept you waiting for almost two months. At the beginning of September, I spent a week in the Big Apple for the very first time. I almost can’t believe it has already been two months. Today is the start of New York week on here! Since you were all the most curious to see what I bought overseas, I’m starting off with the haul. Get comfortable, we’re digging in.

My very first stop was the Glossier showroom. Thanks to insta-stories, I had a pretty good idea what it looked like but of course I wanted to see it with my own eyes. The elevator, the showroom, the testers, the flowers, the scent – even the sink was special. A thousand pictures later, I was ready to stock up on my favourites and to try out the new launches. For starters, Wowder. I picked it up in the shade light/medium and I’ve been using it every day since then. It’s not that pigmented but it’s a really nice finishing powder that keeps shine at bay for a couple of hours.

I needed a back-up of the best blush ever Cloud Paint in Dusk. My tube is almost empty and there’s a discount if you pick up two, so I added Beam. It was the one I hadn’t tried yet and I adore the coral finish, it was perfect for the Indian Summer we had. I also stocked up on Bounce and I picked up Haloscope in Topaz. Oh! And the best thing since lipbalm, Birthday Balm Dotcom. It’s such a beautiful finish, it gives a subtle shimmer to the lips to make them catch the light. I layer it over everything – and it’s the most soothing formula that tastes like cake. What more do you want?

If you would have told me that I would go crazy in the haircare section of Sephora, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. Yet, I came home with eight haircare numbers of which six are IGK. My favourites so far are IGK Smoke & Mirrors conditioning oil & Prenup splash mask for your hair. Oribe Dry Texturizing spray was a true winner before and since it was cheaper to bring one from the States, I’m delighted I did.

Skincare-wise, I made a list before diving between the aisles. Drunk Elephant and Sunday Riley were high on there. I picked up some minis to try things out (Drunk Elephant is expensive!). So far, I haven’t tried much from DE although I was so excited about them. I do love Sunday Riley’s Tidal moisturizer and Saturn face mask.

I did go wild for MILK makeup. I picked up a lipstick, a lip oil and an eye shadow and I had to use every bit of willpower not to bring more. Same thing for IT Cosmetics of which their CC Cream SPF50 is all kinds of wonderful. The raving reviews on the interwebz? Consider them all true. The Bye Bye Redness concealer/primer thing works but is not that brilliant and I really don’t like their Superhero mascara.

That’s it for the really exotic brands that you can’t get here. I did pick up a beautiful HUDA lip kit, NAKED Heat because – it’s really that good and a mini Benefit Hoola bronzer. I wanted to try the Murad Clarifying Body spray and although it seems to work, the packaging is horrible. The pump is broken so it kinda works but is too much of a hassle. A body product that I do love is the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum cream – which is against popular belief, not only for your bum bum. It’s a gorgeous hydrating body cream with a “pistachio caramel” scent.

It looks like I raided a SoHo mask bar, right? Well, I kinda did. It was full of Tony Moly and Korean branded masks – it was the best thing ever. They had a 10 masks for $10 going on or so, so I went wild. And yes, the pink one I just picked up because it had a rabbit on there. No idea what it does but it looks so cute.

Next to my hotel, there was a 24/7 Duane Reade. Crazy, I tell you. So I shopped a gorgeous EcoTools brush, very cheap Soap & Glory lotions and Sally Hansen cuticle removers on different (nightly) trips. You’ll also see some Bath & Body Works. I picked up a hand soap, which a friend told me was awesome and it is, and two huge candles. One of them is completely burned already and I’m trying to be not too heart-broken about it.

I just had to pick up something in the SoHo BYREDO store but since I wasn’t sure about Velvet Haze at the time (I need it in my life, is the ultimate conclusion), I chose the beautiful hand sanitizer in Suede. Gorgeous, hydrating, soft for your hands and still a true bacterial killer. I also picked up a new Acne Studios Canada scarf in a pink blend, together with the bag I’ll keep for ever and ever to lug massive things around. It won’t surprise you that I actually had to use it as carry-on luggage when I flew back because it didn’t all fit my suitcase anymore.

To end, there are some random tops from Uniqlo, a Diptyque travel set from the airport and the New York exclusive candle. I’ll do some in detail reviews, what are you most curious about?
