The Ordinary is wildly popular these days. With effective formulas under €10, offered in cute little vials they made me very curious. I added a couple of serums to my ASOS order about five weeks ago and they’re still a part of my daily routine today.
The brand, The Ordinary is a part of the DECIEM group. It’s an umbrella brand for NIOD, Hylamide and Fountain to name a few. The Ordinary uses ingredients that are proven to be effective by other companies, packs them up in the best possible formula and offers them for their real price – so without research, marketing, ads and so on. Their tagline is “Clinical formulations with integrity”.
I picked up some serums that caught my attention and that in fact, have similar ingredients as the skincare I already use and love. I chose for example the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum, which is a big part of Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night repair and the Lactic Acid 10% + HA2% one which you find in CHANEL’s Le Weekend.
Who doesn’t love a good hyaluronic acid? It’s a substance we find naturally in our skin and therefor, it’s a very popular hydrator. You usually find it in a bunch of anti-aging or hydrating products. Here you have it in its purest form, with some vitamine B5 mixed through.
When I use it, my skin feels soft and plump. I like to use this one on my cheeks when I use the Niancinamide one or the Lactic Acid one on my chin or T-zone. It’s a bit sticky but that doesn’t bother me, it feels like I’m doing something good for my skin when I use this one.
This duo is known as the ones that keep your skin clear. It’s again a very popular team (it’s exactly what’s in Glossier’s Super Pure serum) because they fight inflammation, scarring and visible aspects of sebum activity. What more do you want if you have acne prone skin?
Nothing is my answer. I use this one in the morning to keep my skin happy, clear and matte. And that works. No complaints here, just straightforward skincare – and that’s welcome, for a change.
I call it: the superhero. It’s a rather strong exfoliator that I wouldn’t recommend if you have sensitive skin but it gets rid of everything.
I’ve been using this one at night when my skin wasn’t the smoothest. I had some bumps and inflammation around my chin but this one knows how to tackle those. It makes my skin feel so soft that it’s becoming addictive – and I don’t know if that’s good or bad.
Caffeine, something with green tea leaves and everything that has proven to reduce puffiness and dark circles. I don’t necessarily suffer from those but this feels just like a very hydrating serum for my eyes.
It’s only the second time I’ve been using an eye serum I believe – this was the first time – but I’m hooked. I like the extra step of patting in some extra dewiness in the morning. I’m not the best one to testify wether this works agains dark circles but it does hydrate like a pro.
The anti-ager in a bottle. It combines two retinoid technologies that haven proven to reduce signs of aging. Will hand this one to my mom.
A skin-smoothing anti-aging solution that doesn’t contain any water nor silicone. I haven’t tried this one yet, I believe I’ll also give it to mom to try out. Or not, I’m not sure yet.
I’ve built myself a little routine with these serums. I’ve been using Niancinamide + Zinc and Caffeine Solution, topped off with Origins A Perfect World SPF40 and the matching eye cream in the morning.
PM, I’ve been using the Lactic Acid serum on my T-zone, Hyaluronic Acid on my cheeks and Caffeine Solution around my eyes. Most of the time, I use Embryolisse on top of that.
I’ve been using this routine for about five weeks now and I’m very happy with it. My skin looks good. Radiant, plump, almost acne-free and it feels very soft. But, as you could see on my Instagram story (pictures below) I’ve swapped it out yesterday for a 100% Glossier routine. Of course, you’ll read how that goes right here.
